Ness Battery is a gun emplacement located approximately 300 metres south-south-east of Stromness in Orkney, Scotland. The battery dates from the Second World War period and represents part of the coastal defence infrastructure established to protect Orkney's strategic naval anchorages and harbour facilities from enemy attack. The site comprises gun positions typical of wartime anti-ship and anti-aircraft defences constructed during the 1940s. Like other fortifications in the Orkney archipelago, Ness Battery formed part of the wider network of defensive works developed to safeguard naval operations and civilian installations during the conflict.
